       So, you’d like to be a medical transcriptionist... but you don't know where to start? You've seen the $2000 courses online but which one is best... and are they really necessary?

     If these are the questions you're asking yourself then this may be one of the most important letters you ever read...

     So it's not like the work won't be there for you and you're getting in at the best time in history.  There are so many opportunities... and yet so many scams.

     It has frustrated me to see the $2000 courses and the 6 month internships  that will take half of your income.  There's no need for that... and I'll show you what I mean...
  

How many times have you heard that nonsense?

Yes... I'm in my pajamas... Sometimes until lunch time... But 30 minutes a day?... Forget it. I work an average of 5 hours a day.

You can go from website to website and you'll run into the 'get rich quick' scam-artists who are on the prowl- wanting to take your last dime. They're looking for a victim, don't let it be you!

Well, if you're wanting all that- work from home less than 30 minutes a day  or get rich while you go shopping stuff- I'm sorry... I'm going to disappoint you... but...

If you are wanting to just be able to stay home and be your own boss... hang out with the kids without having to worry about childcare and appointments... actually see your kids grow up without getting a report at the end of the day of their accomplishments... then I'm here to help.

But I'm getting ahead of myself... let me tell you a little about me and how I got into medical transcription...

       My name is Sherrie Patrick.  I'm about to turn 29 for the tenth time:-) 

    I'm married to a great guy for twelve years now...(He's looking over my shoulder   ;-0)     It was the second marriage for both of us... and we weren't getting any younger so we started having our kids quickly...

      I'm the mother of three wonderful kids... and my fourth child- who I married... they're all so gifted - I know... you say the same things about your kids...

     About five years ago, I really needed to make more money, but I couldn't stand the thought of going to an 8 to 5 job and leaving my kids...

       Having many years of experience as a secretary, it helped me to develop my typing skills significantly, both in speed and accuracy.

 ****By the way, those are really important skills for an MT.***

      But back to the story, five years ago I was working part-time at the University Of Georgia while my two young children, ages 5 and 2, were in a home daycare. I had been home with them up until that time but we needed a little more money to make ends meet, so I went to work part-time.

       Everything was going along OK, even though I thought it was ridiculous how little of my paycheck was left after paying for gas to drive my kids to daycare and me to work, as well as paying someone ELSE to basically take care of MY children.

      I really hated that thought... but at least we were paying the bills so I kept working. Then, I became pregnant with baby #3 and it didn’t take me long to do the math... to figure out it just wasn't worth me working away from home...  

      I refused to go full-time to make up the difference in what I would have to pay in childcare and I also refused to think about not being home with this new little baby, especially the first year, which I had done with both of my other children.

 I went on the hunt for something that I could do from home to supplement my husband's income but at the same time raise my kids... I truly believe that while my children are small, my first calling is to be home with them as much as possible.

     It wasn’t fair; I had to find a solution, and FAST!

     So, I began thinking of ideas and soon a friend suggested medical transcription. I immediately began researching this field. I knew I could handle the typing, but having NO medical experience made me a little nervous.

     Long story short (and I’ll fill in the details of exactly how I got started later), I got the necessary training and secured my first job shortly thereafter.

      I have now been an at-home medical transcriptionist for over five years.  I work about 4 to 5 hours a day... for the last five years... I average between $25-$30 an hour and bring home around $1900/month... Not going to retire on it but it's enough for me to stay home... and have the freedom to be my own boss. 

    To be honest with you... I could work more... but why?

     I cannot tell you the blessing this job has been... Saturday we went to an amusement park... then went to Chuckie Cheese... and... after I put the kids to bed I worked for a couple of hours...

     The freedom to be my own boss- to set my own hours- to decide how much work I want or how much I can handle- that is why I do what I do!
